Fire Station Open House Oct. 8; Fire Safety Week Oct. 9-15
September 25, 2011(La Mesa) -- What’s the best way to protect your family from fire? Be ahead of the game, of course. With more than 360,000 home fires reported in the United States in 2009, according to the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), your best defense is a good offense.
That’s why La Mesa’s Fire Department is teaming up with NFPA during the October 9-15, 2011, with this message for the community: “It’s Fire Prevention Week. Protect your Family from Fire!”
This year’s campaign focuses on preventing the leading causes of home fires -- cooking, heating and electrical equipment, as well as candles and smoking materials. Additionally, it urges people to protect their homes and families with life-saving technology and planning.
The La Mesa Fire Department will be hosting a variety of activities such as a fire extinguisher demonstration, a sprinkler demonstration, coloring contest and auto extrication demonstration during Fire Prevention Week to promote “It’s Fire Prevention Week. Protect your Family from Fire!” Through these educational, family-oriented activities, residents can learn more about the power of prevention and available technologies to protect their own families from fire.
La Mesa Fire Department’s Open House will be on Saturday, October 8, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fire Station 11, 8034 Allison Ave. To find out more about Fire Prevention Week programs and activities in La Mesa, please contact the La Mesa Fire Department at (619) 667-1301 or visit our website at www.heartlandfire.org.
