October 7, 2019 (Alpine) -- The Alpine Fire Protection District in collaboration with the National Fire Protection Agency is spreading the word about Fire Prevention Week October 6-12. The district also hosts its annual Open House at the fire station (1364 Tavern Rd.) on October 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. All are invited to come and visit the fire station, see the equipment up close and meet your firefighters.
This year’s theme is “Plan and Practice your Escape!”
PLAN: start with a home escape plan and practice it monthly, during the day and at night so it becomes muscle memory. Have an outside meeting place so your family knows where to go and stay, and have a communication plan in place.
PRACTICE: review your plan over and make sure things have not changed.
ESCAPE: Parents please practice exit drills In The Home with your children. Have them show you the plan and work in helping them execute the plan. Take turns running this plan so everyone knows where to go when leaving the home.
This year, the Alpine Fire Protection again partners with Alpine Schools during the month of October to teach fire safety. Activities include showcasing the fire engine to the students at Boulder Oaks and Shadow Hills Elementary Schools. Over 200 first graders enjoy a fire station tour. The district also hosts a coloring contest for Boulder Oaks, Shadow Hills and Joan MacQueen schools. Winning students at each grade level will be invited to the fire station for a pizza and ice cream lunch party with firefighters; winning posters will be displayed on the district’s social media for the community to view.
